There are plans to change the landscape from what we currently have to an industrial sized solar energy power plant that will change our open space from tranquility to fields of glass, 2.2m fences , 60+ CCTV cameras on 4m poles, security lights, noise producing power invertors etc.
We are a community group of residents from surrounding pit villages along with other interested parties such as local businesses, visitors to the area, wildlife lovers, pro British farming etc with the aim to try and protect what generations have been fortunate to experience and our children of the future so desperately need retained.
Walbottle Greenspace is beautiful, natural space surrounded by Walbottle Village, Blucher, Orchid Rise, West Denton Park and Mill Vale all of which currently could be described as a semi-rural location.
The Facebook Group and Webpage has been set-up with the aim to preserve, enhance and protect the area for the benefit of all village and neighbouring residents, now and for generations to come.
The area consists of green fields on best & most versatile agricultural land classified as Grade 3 and used for the production of high quality wheat due to the quality of soil and gradient facing south. Grazing meadows, dene’s, waterways and waterfall, brickworks, community orchard, bridleways, byways, right of ways, wagonway, designated local nature reserve, historical sites, listed buildings, and sites of importance for nature conservation also integrate and create the local environment we live in.
The Greenspace is used daily by people walking, runners, people riding bikes, horse riders, dog walkers and families walking children to and from school avoiding the hazards of the road.
The Greenspace is a haven for all sorts of wildlife with regular sightings of deer, foxes, rabbits, common birds, birds of prey, various tree and plant life, pollinators, and insects.
Whether people come and explore, wildlife spot, play with their children, walk, run, or ride exercise dogs or horses they are able to do so in a vibrant and picturesque area with beautiful views North, South, East and West of the Tyne Valley throughout the seasons.
Breathe in the fresh air in one of our truly unspoiled hidden local gems and promote good physical and positive mental health.
We are truly so lucky to have this space to enjoy so please feel free to share any information, knowledge, memories, and pictures relating to this area and stand Together to say NO to Blucher Solar Energy Power Plant, Walbottle.
